The Supreme Court on 5th February allowed Sonu Sood to withdraw his petition challenging a notice issued last October by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) against alleged unauthorised alterations to convert his six-storey residential building into a hotel. A three-judge bench of Chief Justice S.A. Bobde and Justices A.S. Bopanna and V. Ramasubramanian directed the authorities to consider and decide his application on its merits and in accordance with law.
Sonu sought withdrawal of his special leave petition before the apex court against an order of the Bombay high court, denying him relief, and his suit before the Bombay city civil court, against the BMC. Allowing his plea, the Supreme Court said that both stood dismissed as withdrawn.
Last month, Justice P.K. Chavan of the high court said that Sonu Sood had come to court with “unclean hands” to seek protection from civic action against “illegal alterations” to his property at Juhu in Bombay.
