Satish Kaul died of COVID-19 this morning (10th April) in Ludhiana. He was 74 and is survived by his sister.
Satish Kaul had acted in around 300 Hindi and Punjabi films. He played Lord Indra in B.R. Chopra’s landmark TV serial, Mahabharat. Vikram Aur Betaal was another popular TV serial he was seen in. Among the films he had acted in were Mere Sartaj, Harfan Maulaa, Dance Dance, Commando, Karma, Ram Lakhan, Aag Hi Aag, Ilzaam, Aunty No. 1, Pyaar Toh Hona Hi Tha and Punjabi films like Sassi Punnu, Lachhi, Vehra Lambran Da, Ishq Nimana, Suhag Chooda, Wohti Hath Soti and Patola.
Satish was an FTII alumnus and was the son of renowned Kashmiri singer Mohan Lal Alma. He was first noticed as Rehana Sultan’s love interest in Prem Parbat (1973). He had shifted base to Ludhiana several years ago and had started an acting school there in 2011. The school did not do well. He fractured his hip bone in 2015 and remained bed-ridden for almost two-and-a-half years after that. He checked into an old-age home where he stayed till 2019, after which he moved into a rented house. He was admitted to a hospital on 8th April and tested positive for COVID-19. He breathed his last this morning.
