CASE FILED OVER FILM OFFER FROM FAKE INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT OF HIRANI’S SON | 16 July, 2021

A case has been filed after a fake Instagram profile in the name of filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani’s son advertised for aspiring actors to audition for an upcoming film. The filmmaker’s office complained to the Andheri (Bombay) police after it got a mail asking if the advertisement post about Teenage Cinema was genuine. The post advertised that there was an urgent requirement for males and females, age between 18 and 25, for lead roles as well as for negative roles. It went on to add that even freshers could apply. The advertisement asked the applicants to DM (Direct Message) if interested, and sought payment from the applicants too. The selected candidate would be offered Rs. 20 crore for the role, the fake advertisement added.

A police officer said that the fraudster even communicated with the aspirants, posing as Hirani’s son. The cyber police team is conducting a probe to track down the accused and to ascertain how many people had got duped.
