Naseeruddin Shah on 31st August criticised and condemned those sections in the Indian Muslim community who are “celebrating the Taliban’s return to power” in Afghanistan. He said, there was a huge difference between Hindustani Islam and the practice of the faith in other parts of the world. In a video recorded in Urdu, the actor said that while the revival of Taliban was dangerous, equally dangerous was the celebration of the barbarians by a section of Indian Muslims.
He added that every Indian Muslim should ask himself if he wanted a reformed, modern Islam or the barbaric values of the past centuries. He concluded his video clip by adding, “May God not bring the day when Hindustani Islam is changed so much that we don’t even recognise it.”
