A Thane court yesterday (September 27) ordered issuance of a show cause notice to writer-lyricist-poet Javed Akhtar on a defamation suit filed against him over his alleged remarks comparing the RSS with the Taliban. The suit has been filed by RSS activist Vivek Champanerkar in the court of the additional chief judicial magistrate and joint civil judge (senior division). Vivek has sought Re. 1 as compensation from Javed Akhtar.
It may be recalled that Akhtar stirred a hornet’s nest early this month when he told a TV news channel that right wing all over the world had an uncanny similarity. “The Taliban want an Islamic country. These people want to make a Hindu Rashtra,” he said without naming the Hindutva organisation.
