SHARDA CINEMA IN BOMBAY TO GO? | 11 May, 2019

Sharda Cinema at Dadar East in Bombay, which is shut from November 2017, has now been demolished, and only its walls remain. The cinema’s possession was taken over by the Mumbai Marathi Granth Sangrahalay Trust which asked Gandhi Exhibitors, which ran the 750-seat cinema since the 1970s, to strip down the cinema to just its walls. The Trust got back the possession on 22nd April after a long legal battle.

Since Gandhi Exhibitors, in accordance with the Trust’s wishes, removed the chairs, projectors, airconditioners and even the ceiling, it is certain that the cinema will give way to some other structure.

RTI activist Anil Galgali and other members of the Marathi Granth Sangrahalay Bachao Samiti held a meeting on 7th May and decided to start a public campaign to restart the cinema.
