A 25-year-old woman from Nainital was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her hostel room at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune on 1st September. She was pursuing a PG diploma in screen acting and was in her third year. This is the second death of a student in the hostel in the last one month. A 32-year-old cinematography student was found hanging in his hostel room on 4th August.
An inquiry revealed that the woman who committed suicide was suffering from stress. No suicide note was found. An accidental death case has been registered. The post mortem report is awaited. The police will record statements of the students on the campus.
