CBI TO PROBE SONALI PHOGAT DEATH | 13 September, 2022

The Central Bureau of Investigation will now probe the murder of actress and BJP leader Sonali Phogat. The department of personnel and training (DoPT) endorsed the Union home ministry’s recommendation for handing over the case to the central agency. On a request received from the Goa government, the ministry of home affairs had written to the DoPT, recommending a CBI probe into the unnatural death of Phogat on August 23 in Goa.

The cause for death was earlier assumed to be heart attack but the multiple blunt injuries found on her body had raised doubts that she may have been murdered. Her family also insisted that there was foul play, leading to the Goa police treating her death as murder.

It is believed that Sonali died on August 23 after consuming drugs allegedly administered by her personal assistant, Sudhir Sangwan, and his friend, Sukhwinder Singh, during a late-night party. Both the accused are currently in police custody.
