NEED TO REGULATE VULGAR CONTENT ON OTT PLATFORMS: HC | 8 March, 2023

The Delhi high court recently said that appropriate law or guidelines to regulate content on social media as well as OTT platforms calls for urgent attention insofar as the use of vulgar language in public domain is concerned, as this content is accessible to children too.

The single judge bench of Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma said, “This court draws the attention of the ministry of information and technology to situations which are fast emerging on a daily basis and to take steps for enforcing stricter application of its rules, as deemed appropriate in its wisdom, in light of the observations made in this judgement. The court, in particular, criticised the language used in web series College Romance, and said that it did not pass the “moral decency community test”.
