APARNA SEN GETS LEGAL NOTICE FROM BJP LEADER FOR DEROGATORY REMARKS AGAINST BSF OFFICERS | 19 November, 2021

Filmmaker Aparna Sen was recently served a legal notice by West Bengal BJP leader Anirban Ganguly for allegedly calling BSF personnel rapists and murderers. The National Award-winning filmmaker allegedly made the remark at an event held at the Press Club in Calcutta.

This is an addition to the ongoing row over the Centre’s decision to extend the BSF’s jurisdiction in West Bengal, Assam and Punjab. West Bengal and Punjab legislative assemblies have passed resolutions to oppose the Centre’s move.

Trinamool Congress MP Udayan Guha recently claimed in the West Bengal assembly that BSF personnel touched women inappropriately while conducting searches during border movement. However, a BSF officer said that only the BSF’s Mahila (women) Praharis have the authorisation to conduct searches at the border on women. The officer refuted the allegations by Guha by labelling them as “utterly baseless”.
