Shots were fired at Kap’s Café, an eatery owned by actor and stand-up comic Kapil Sharma, in Canada’s Surrey on July 9. No one was injured and no property was damaged.
Harjit Singh Laddi, a Babbar Khalsa operative on NIA’s most wanted list, has claimed responsibility for the attack. He said, the reason for the firing was remarks on Nihang Sikhs and their clothes on a TV show hosted by Sharma.
A viral video clip, doing the rounds on social media, shows a man unloading a magazine of a semi-automatic pistol into the building which houses the café. Investigations are underway.
In a social media post, Laddi said, “In an episode of Kapil Sharma’s comedy show, a character made some humorous remarks about the dress and behaviour of Nihang Sikhs. We tried to contact Kapil Sharma’s manager by calling him several times, but there was no response from him. All our calls were ignored. If he doesn’t apologise publicly…”
