Punjabi film Chal Mera Putt 2, which was released on 27th August in cinemas of East Punjab circuit and some other cities like Delhi, did outstanding business on the first two days. Its collection total on the first day in East Punjab alone was Rs. 90 lakh. On day 2, the collections went up by 15% so that the total was Rs. 1.04 crore. In the rest of India, the Chal Mera Putt sequel added about Rs. 10 lakh on the first day, and Rs. 12 lakh on the second day. Therefore, the all-India total on day 1 was Rs. 1 crore while the figure for day 2 was Rs. 1.16 crore. The grand total for the first two days is, therefore, an extraordinary Rs. 2.16 crore of which Rs. 1.94 crore has come from East Punjab alone.
It may be mentioned here that Chal Mera Putt 2 had first been released in 2020, on 13th March, but it had to be discontinued after a run of only 3-4 days due to the pandemic lockdown in various states. The producers lost no time in cancelling the contract with the digital platform as the public reports of the film were phenomenal and hence they decided to revive it when cinemas would reopen. A theatrical revival would not have been possible if the OTT release would’ve happened as per the agreement with the digital platform, and so the producers returned the signing amount they had received from the platform and cancelled the deal.
Of course, back then, nobody in his wildest of dreams could’ve imagined that the revival in cinemas would happen 17 months later. In the intervening period, the producers ensured that no piracy of the Amrinder Gill and Simi Chahal starrer happened. The fruits of the cancellation of the film’s digital release and also of guarding against the film’s piracy are being reaped in abundance now. For, the film is set to be another blockbuster, much like the first part! Collections today are expected to be in the region of Rs. 1.35 to 1.40 crore or even more!!
Incidentally, to put things in perspective, it may be mentioned here that when the film had hit the screens on 13th March, 2020, it had collected Rs. 1.25 crore on the first day. As against this, Rs. 1 crore on day 1 now, with 50% capacity only, is outstanding!
