DEFENCE MINISTRY NOD NECESSARY FOR FILMS, WEB SERIES BASED ON DEFENCE PEOPLE | 1 August, 2020

The defence ministry has written to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) as well as the ministries of I & B and electronics and information technology for previewing films, documentaries and web series made on them to check for any distortions. The defence ministry has said that it has often received complaints about the portrayal of army personnel and military uniforms in an insulting manner.

The letter of July 27, 2020 states that since some production houses are distorting the image of the armed forces, producers of films and series based on army themes would now have to obtain a no-objection certificates from the ministry of defence before the films/series are shown to the public. It may be mentioned here that some concerned citizens and ex-servicemen’s associations have even lodged an FIR against a production house and an OTT platform to seek legal action for distortion of facts and showing armymen in poor light.
