The Bombay high court yesterday (February 15) quashed an FIR registered against Sushant Singh Rajput’s sister, Meetu Singh, for alleged offences of forgery and violation of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in getting bogus prescription of medicines for the actor. However, the court did not quash the same FIR in the case of the late actor’s other sister, Priyanka Singh, as the allegations against her were serious, there was material on record and the case was under investigation.
The bench of Justices S.S. Shinde and M.S. Karnik said that the allegations were primarily against Priyanka Singh and Dr. Tarun Kumar. The court accepted the legal submissions of senior counsel Devdas Kamat and public prosecutor Deepak Thakre for Maharashtra government that provisions of the NDPS Act were attracted in the complaint against Priyanka. The two sisters had petitioned the high court last year to seek orders to quash the FIR lodged on September 7, 2020 at the Bandra (Bombay) police station by Rhea Chakraborty, girlfriend of Sushant, against them and a doctor for allegedly procuring a fake prescription of anti-depressants for their brother. The same FIR also accused the sisters of abetting his suicide.
