Kashmir will soon get its first multiplex. The Jammu & Kashmir administration has granted Kashmiri Pandit Vijay Dhar permission to set up the premiere multiplex of Kashmir in Srinagar. The two-screen multiplex will be ready by March next year. While one screen will have a seating capacity of 200, the other will be a 150-seater. Vijay Dhar is the son of D.P. Dhar, former J & K deputy home minister and the architect of India’s intervention in the Bangladesh War of 1971.
No film has been screened in the Kashmir valley after 1999. Actually, the eight single-screen cinemas in Kashmir had shut down in 1990. They reopened briefly in 1999.
