The Kasarwadavali (Thane) police have booked five persons for cheating a small-time web series producer of Rs. 35.50 lakh. Three accused are from Bhavnagar (in Gujarat) while two are from Mira Road (Bombay).
The complainant owns a production company in Thane and has completed three projects. In November 2021, the victim got acquainted with the accused who asked him to produce a web series for which a work order was given. The accused agreed to make a payment of Rs. 22 lakh for five episodes and one of the accused even borrowed Rs. 13.50 lakh from the victim for the marketing of their company. On June 22 this year, the web series was completed according to the contract. Later, when the complainant asked for payment for the web series and also for the money he had given to one of the five accused, the accused started giving him “lame excuses” and did not even return the borrowed money.
The police then registered a case of cheating and criminal breach of trust based on the producer’s complaint.
