HC DISMISSES PIL ON DISHA SALIAN DEATH | 28 November, 2020

The Bombay high court on 26th November dismissed a PIL seeking orders to the police for an investigation into the death of Disha Salian who worked very briefly as secretary to Sushant Singh Rajput. Petitioner Puneet Dhanda called Disha’s death unnatural. He said, Disha Salian died on June 8, and Sushant died on June 14. He termed both the deaths unnatural. In support, he cited media reports that raised questions over the cause of her death.

The Supreme Court on October 26 had refused to entertain a plea of Puneet for a court-monitored CBI inquiry into the death of Salian. However, the apex court gave Puneet the liberty to approach the high court. On its part, the HC dismissed the petition, saying that there was no information given to the police for registration of an FIR in an unnatural death case. It added that if any person had any information of a cognisable offence regarding the death of Disha, he may submit it to the police under the provisions of sections 38 and 39 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
