‘HUMSAAZ: THE MUSICAL’ REVIEW | 28 February, 2025

Released last week in West Bengal, Biocine Production House’s Humsaaz: The Musical (UA) is a love story. Three friends are on a getaway. Romance develops between Khanak and Loy.

Anish Mohanty has penned a routine story which doesn’t offer much freshness. Amal Chakraborty’s screenplay is ordinary. Resultantly, the drama doesn’t quite engage or involve the audience. Dialogues are commonplace.

Anwesha delivers a dull performance as Khanak. Mohd. Iqbal is so-so as Loy. Dhrupadi Banerjee doesn’t impress in the role of Zoya. Prakriti Dasgupta passes muster as Nisha. Tousif Alam lends average support as Akshay. Ashok Singh is not up to the mark as Barun Khanna. Priyanka Roy, Sathi Ganguly, Devleena Kumar (in a special appearance) and the others hardly contribute anything substantial.

Soumyajit Ganguly’s direction is okay. Amwesha’s music is quite alright but none of the songs are anthing to dance about. Lyrics (by Anwesha and Joydeb Majumdar) are functional. Mukesh Roy’s choreography is average. Smriti’s cinematography is alright. Art direction (Ummat Dhali and Saktidhar Bir) is ordinary. Sanjib Kar’s editing is loose.

On the whole, Humsaaz: The Musical is too ordinary to make a mark at the box-office.

1st week Calcutta 1,88,579/- from 2 cinemas.
