‘JAGGU ANI JULIET’ (MARATHI) REVIEW | 10 February, 2023

Punit Balan Studios’ Jaggu Ani Juliet (Marathi; UA) is a love story. Jaggu (Amey Wagh) and Juliet (Vaidehi Parshurami) meet for five days. While Jaggu falls in love with Juliet, she needs four days to decide whether she is also in love with him. During those four days, Juliet visits different places in Uttarakhand with Jaggu. Both, Jaggu and Juliet, don’t have mothers. While Jaggu loves his father (Upendra Limaye), Juliet hates her father (Manoj Joshi).

Why does Juliet detest her dad? What happens to Jaggu and Juliet’s love story?

Mahesh Limaye, Ambar Hadap and Ganesh Pandit have written a story which doesn’t offer much. The trio has attempted to include some romance, some comedy and some emotions to make the drama wholesome, but their screenplay is also not very exciting or entertaining. Ambar Hadap and Ganesh Pandit have penned nice dialogues; the Koli dialogues are interesting.

Amey Wagh does a fine job as Jaggu. Vaidehi Parshurami looks glamorous and performs well in the role of Juliet. Upendra Limaye lends fair support as Jaggu’s father. Manoj Joshi gets limited scope in the role of Juliet’s father. He is alright. Sameer Dharmadhikari is adequate in the role of Madan. Hrishikesh Joshi makes his mark as Philip Patrick. Pravin Tarde is okay as Jondhalekar. Avinash Narkar, Savita Malpekar, Jaywant Wadkar, Sameer Choughule, Keyuri Shah, Sunil Abhyankar, Anand Mhaskar, Abhidnya Bhave and Renuka Daftardar provide decent support.

Mahesh Limaye’s direction is fair. His cinematography is nice. Ajay-Atul have composed appealing tunes for lyrics penned by Guru Thakur and themselves (Ajay-Atul). Rahul-Sanjeev’s choreography is okay. Vijay Gavande’s background music is lovely. Eknath Kadam’s art direction is proper. Jayant Jathar’s editing is fairly crisp.

On the whole, Jaggu Ani Juliet suffers on account of a dull story and an ordinary screenplay. It will, therefore, find the going at the turnstiles tough.

Released on 10-2-’23 at Plaza (daily 1 show) and other cinemas of Bombay thru AA Films. Publicity: fair. Opening: weak.
