‘MUNJYA’ SURPRISES TRADE

This week’s new release, CHANDU CHAMPION, started on a shaky wicket but its positive reports offset the dejection that could’ve set in.

Munjya sprung a wonderful surprise on the trade. In spite of a low-key promotional campaign, the film took a pretty impressive start. After that, collections jumped during the weekend, giving enough hope that the medium-budget film was on its way to becoming a hit. Collections during the weekdays were also pretty good. The first day closed at Rs. 4.21 crore, thanks in no small measure to reduced ticket prices. Collections on Saturday jumped to Rs. 7.40 crore, and further to Rs. 8.43 crore on Sunday. After a weekend total of Rs. 20.04 crore, collections for the weekdays were supremely steady: Monday – Rs. 4.11 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 4.21 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 4.11 crore, Thursday – Rs. 4.03 crore. With the total for the weekdays being a wonderful Rs. 16.46 crore, the first week closed at Rs. 36.50 crore. Around 90% of the film’s cost has been recovered by way of the distributor’s share for the first week alone!

Bajrang Aur Ali failed to bring the footfalls in the first week.

Malhar met with a disastrous fate in 1st week.

Phooli flopped miserably all over in the first week.

Bad Boys: Ride Or Die (dubbed and the original English versions) did average in 1st week. The film collected Rs. 0.39 crore in paid previews on Thursday. Collections on Friday were Rs. 1.25 crore. The totals for Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 1.90 crore and Rs. 1.63 crore respectively. Hence the total for the first 4-day weekend was Rs. 5.17 crore. Collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 0.51 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.46 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.38 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.34 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 1.69 crore. So the first week closed at Rs. 6.86 crore.

Mr. & Mrs. Mahi faced a noticeable fall in collections in 2nd week. It netted Rs. 1.31 crore on Friday, Rs. 2.22 crore on Saturday, and Rs. 1.95 crore on Sunday, taking the second weekend’s total to Rs. 5.48 crore. Collections for the weekdays were very low: Monday – Rs. 0.80 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.79 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.75 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.70 crore. With the total for the weekdays being Rs. 3.04 crore, the second week closed at Rs. 8.52 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 33.41 crore.

Savi crashed in the second week.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (dubbed and the original English versions) is on its way out. Collections in its third week were low.
