’83’ OPENING SHOCKS TRADE

The lacklustre initial of 83 this week has sent shock waves in the industry. While collections were decent in the high-end multiplexes, they were shockingly poor in most other multiplexes and in single-screen cinemas.

Spider-Man: No Way Home (original English and Hindi, Tami and Telugu dubbed versions) did extraordinary business in the first week. After an absolutely flying start on Thursday (Rs. 32.67 crore), it netted Rs. 20.37 crore on Friday, Rs. 26.10 crore on Saturday, and Rs. 29.23 crore on Sunday. The total for the 4-day weekend was, therefore, a splendid Rs. 108.37 crore. In other words, the franchise film crossed the Rs. 100-crore mark in the first (4-day) weekend itself. Collections on the weekdays were also noteworthy: Monday – Rs. 12.10 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 10.40 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 8.70 crore, Thursday – Rs. 8.50 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was an extraordinary Rs. 39.70 crore. Grand total for 8 days: Rs. 148.07 crore. Total for 7 days (excluding the first day — Thursday): Rs. 115.40 crore.

Pushpa: The Rise Part 1 (dubbed) has done phenomenal business in the first week. It collected better than the first day, on the fourth, fifth and sixth days because of a strong word of mouth. The weekend started with a nett collection of Rs. 3.52 crore. Collections went up by almost 15% on Saturday so that it closed at Rs. 3.99 crore. Collections increased further on Sunday which closed at Rs. 5.80 crore. The first weekend, therefore, closed at Rs. 13.31 crore. Collections during the weekdays were outstanding: Monday – Rs. 3.87 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 3.74 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 3.66 crore, Thursday – Rs. 3.51 crore. In this way, the weekdays’ total was a super-impressive Rs. 14.78 crore. Total for 1st week: Rs. 28.09 crore!
