Popular costume and fashion designer Leena Daru passed away today (31st July) in Bombay. She was 81 years. She had been hospitalised for various medical conditions. Her funeral was held tonight.
Leena Daru was the wife of art director Paresh of Chhel-Paresh duo. Among the films she had done the costumes for were Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja, Khal-nayak, Mr. Natwarlal, Umrao Jaan, Utsav, Prem Granth, Yaraana, Anjaam, Deewana, Thanedaar, Chandni, Lamhe, Tezaab, Sahibaan,Ek Chadar Maili Si, Jaal, Saajan Ki Saheli, Khubsoorat, Gol Maal, Dillagi and many others. She won the National Award for her costumes in Lamhe alongwith Neeta Lulla and Kachins. She had worked with most of the top actresses of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, including Hema Malini, Rekha, Moushumi Chatterji, Parveen Babi, Zeenat Aman, Neetu Singh, Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit and Karisma Kapoor. She started her career with Asha Parekh in the late 1960s with Aaye Din Bahaar Ke.
