Gunman Abdul Rashid Merchant, convicted of the murder of music baron Gulshan Kumar in 1997, surrendered in a sessions court in Bombay on 7th July. The Bombay high court had last week overturned the Mumbra resident’s acquittal and had instead sentenced him to life. It also upheld the conviction of his brother, Abdul Rauf Merchant, who has already been serving a jail term. The high court had directed Abdul Rashid to surrender.
On 7th, Rashid’s plea, submitted in the sessions court, said, “The applicant had come to know about the same (high court order)… remained present for surrendering before the honourable court.”
