Released last week in Bombay circuit (Bombay and Pune), MJK Productions’ Maqam (UA) is the story of an aspiring fighter.
Sabyasachi Deb Burman, Sachin Shetty and Swati Hans have penned a story about a martial arts aspirant and how he does all under his command to become an expert in the field. The story also talks about how he sometimes strays but invariably returns to achieve his goal. Sachin Shetty and Swati Hans’ screenplay follows the tried and tested path, offering nothing new or unusual. Sachin Shetty’s dialogues are routine.
Mayur Jitt Singh does a fair job. Mrinal Mukherjee is so-so. Tom Alter passes muster. Shruti Das is okay. J. Brandon Hill is passable. Kurush Deboo, Kunal Sharma and Aaqib Peerzada do as necessary.
Sachin Shetty’s direction is dull. Liyakat Ajmeri and Utsav Shrey’s music is functional. Lyrics are ordinary. Background music is below the mark. Venkat Gangadhar’s camerawork hardly merits separate mention. Mohd. Amin Khatib’s action and stunt scenes afford some thrill. Dilip Kumar Routray’s editing leaves something to be desired.
On the whole, Maqam is a flop show.
