A special NDPS court yesterday (October 30) rejected the second bail plea of Siddharth Pithani, arrested in the drugs case linked to the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. Pithani, roommate of Sushant Singh Rajput, was arrested on May 26 in Hyderabad by the Narcotics Control Bureau and brought to Bombay.
Special public prosecutor Advait Sethna opposed the bail plea, saying that despite the fact that the defence had sought bail on grounds of parity as other accused were released by the court, section 27A of the NDPS Act for illicit trafficking and harbouring of offenders was attracted in the case. Pithani had said in his bail application that since the chargesheet was not submitted within 60 days of his arrest, he was entitled to bail. It was argued by the prosecution that considering the stringent section applied in the case, the time limit for filing the chargesheet was 180 days.
