The United Nations has removed Randeep Hooda as brand ambassador of the Convention for Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals, an environment treaty, after a nine-year-old video of the actor surfaced. In the video, Randeep is purportedly seen making a ‘joke’ on former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati.
The actor’s remarks were termed casteist and sexist in the social media. The video clip, from an event held in 2012, went viral after it was shared by someone on Twitter earlier this week.
“The CMS Secretariat finds the comments made in the video to be offensive, and they do not reflect the values of the CMS Secretariat or the United Nations,” said a statement from the Convention Secretariat from Bonn (Germany).
