‘SNOW WHITE’ (DUBBED) REVIEW | 21 March, 2025

Walt Disney Pictures and Marc Platt Productions’ Snow White (dubbed from the Hollywood film of the same name) is a musical fantasy which is a live-action reimaging of Walt Disney’s 1937 animated film, Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, which itself was based on the 1812 fairy tale, Snow White, by the Brothers Grimm.

Princess Snow White (Rachel Zegler) joins forces with the seven dwarfs to liberate her kingdom from the tyranny of her cruel stepmother, the Evil Queen (Gal Gadot).

The fairy tale story is interesting but since everyone has read or seen it on screen, the novelty factor is missing. Erin Cressida Wilson’s screenplay is engaging but again, it offers nothing fresh because the drama is too well-known. The presentation is very good, which, to some extent, offsets the lack of novelty.

Rachel Zegler does a very fine job in the title role. Gal Gadot is alright as the Evil Queen but she doesn’t deliver a memorable performance, which is what one expected. Andrew Burnap is good as Jonathan. Ansu Kabia is okay as the Huntsman. Hadley Fraser and Lorena Andrea provide decent support as the Good King and the Good Queen, Snow White’s parents. The voice acting of the seven dwarfs is of a fine standard. Emilia Faucher (as young Snow White) and Olivia Verrall (as baby Snow White) are endearing. George Appleby (as Quigg), Colin Michael Carmichael (as Farno), Samuel Baxter (as Scythe), Jimmy Johnston (as Finch), Dujonna Gift (as Maple), Idriss Kargbo (as Bingley) and Jaih Betote (as Norwich) do as desired.

Marc Webb’s direction is nice. Music (Larry Morey, Frank Churchill, Pasek and Paul) is appealing. Jeff Morrow’s background score is impactful. Mandy Walker’s cinematography is eye-filling. Kave Quinn’s production designing is of a wonderful standard. Editing (by Mark Sanger and Sarah Broshar) is quite sharp. Dubbing is proper.

On the whole, Snow White is an average entertainer but its box-office prospects are very dull because of lack of novelty and promotion.

Released on 21-3-’25 at Jai Hind Mukta A2 (daily 3 shows) and other cinemas of Bombay by Star India Pvt. Ltd. Publicity & opening: dull. …….Also released all over. Opening was weak everywhere. …….The original English version has also released simultaneously.
