STATE GR RECOMMENDS MARATHI FILM TO SCHOOLS | 7 January, 2024

The Maharashtra government on January 5 issued a government resolution (GR) recommending schools to screen Marathi film Raavrambha, based on the story of a Maratha soldier who served under Prataprao Gujar, the commander-in-chief of Chhatrapati Shivaji’s army. The film was released last year in May and although it dwells on the soldier’s fight against Behlol Khan of the Adil Shahi dynasty, it ia a historical love story of Maratha soldier Ravrambha.

Several school principals and teachers are perplexed about the logic behind the GR because they feel, it makes little sense to screen a romantic film in which the Maratha soldier sets out to rescue his kidnapped lady love.

The government has stipulated that schools can charge a maximum of Rs. 20 per student above 10 years of age, for the film.
