Yesteryear actress Sulochana breathed her last today (4th June) around 6 p.m. in Bombay due to age-related issues. She was 94. Her body will be kept for antim darshan tomorrow (5th June) at her Prabhadevi residence. She will be cremated at 5.30 p.m. tomorrow at the Shivaji Park crematorium.
Sulochana Latkar had acted in more than 250 Hindi films and over 50 Marathi films. She started her career in Marathi films in the 1940s and then moved to Hindi films. Among the Hindi films she was seen in are Dil Deke Dekho, Sant Gyaneshwar, Aadmi, Johnny Mera Naam, Kora Kagaz, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Himmatwala, Andar Baahar, Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai, Duniya and Amir Garib. The actress was a popular screen mother, often playing the hero’s mother. She did a number of films with Rajesh Khanna, including Bahraon Ke Sapne, Kati Patang, Mere Jeevan Saathi, Prem Nagar and Adhikar.
Among the Marathi films Sulochana worked in are Sasurvas, Vahinichya Bangdya, Meeth Bhakar, and Dhakti Jau. She was honoured with the Padma Shri in 1999.
Sulochana was the mother-in-law of Marathi film actor Kashinath Ghanekar. She learnt acting under writer-director Bhalji Pendharkar.
