Released this week in C.I. to a dull response, Kawar Pictures, Vermaak Frames and Rangshala Productions’ Veer Gomtesha is the story of Veer (Rohit Mehta), who works as a news reporter in a television news channel. He is an atheist but his philosophy changes forever while he is covering one of his stories.
Veer is asked by his boss to cover a Jain religious event. Much as he does not believe in God and, therefore, religion, he goes to the event with his cameraman-friend. At the event, he learns about Jain philosophy, Santhara and Samadhimaran. So impressed is he by the Jain religion that he becomes a huge supporter of Santhara and Samadhimaran and legally fights the laws being passed against them.
Shashank Jain’s story is more in the nature of propagating religion and, therefore, does not have the usual ingredients of a commercial fare. Also, it is about Jain religion and will, therefore, not hold much appeal for viewers of other religions. His screenplay is dull and devoid of entertainment of any kind. Shashank Jain’s dialogues are commonplace.
Rohit Mehta does an ordinary job as Veer. Sushil Johri is so-so as Chaudhary. Mayank Dubey, Mahavir Kala, Shalu Upadhyay, Sharad Sabal, Prakash Deshmukh, Gaurav Rajawat, Nimish Jain, Anurag Mishra, Rishabh Sharma, Priyanshi Deshmukh and Manisha Kag barely pass muster.
Shashank Jain’s direction befits a documentary. Aakash Mandloi’s music and Rahul Shinde’s lyrics are more functional than anything else. Pranav Daure’s camerawork is nothing to shout about. Prabhat Kumar Ojha’s editing is loose.
On the whole, Veer Gomtesha has very little commercial chance as it is devoid of entertainment value.
