Venus Infotainment and Six Star Entertainment’s Yaathisai (dubbed from the Tamil film of the same name; UA) is a period action film. The film is set in the 7th century. The Einar clan leads a nomadic life during the reign of the Pandiyan dynasty. Ranadheera Pandiyan (Shakthi Mithran) is the powerful ruler of the Pandiyan dynasty. Kothi (Seyon Purushothaman), a young man from the Einar clan, is convinced that he is destined to free his clan from the nomadic lives they lead. So, Kothi goes on a journey to revolt against the Pandiyans.
Dharani Rasendran has written a story which is set so far back in time that it may hold little interest for the youth of today. Dharani Rasendran’s screenplay is well-researched and pays attention to details but it is unable to engage the viewers. The drama loses steam after a while. What’s more, the proceedings lack emotions which could touch the heart. Also, there are so many characters, most of them played by unrecognisable faces, that they confuse the audience. Dialogues are average.
Seyon Purushothaman does well as Kothi. Rajalakshmi is alright as Devaradiyar. Shakthi Mithran is effective as Ranadheera Pandiyan. Vaidehi Amarnath is quite nice as Devaradiyar. Guru Somasundaram has his moments as Poosaari. Sabthaseelan lends fair support as Thotti. M. Chandrakumar, Semmalar Annam, Subathra Robert, Samar and Vijay Seyon provide the desired support. Others are alright.
Dharani Rasendran’s direction is good but the narration fails to entertain the audience much. Chakravarthy’s music is average. Lyrics are functional. Song picturisations are eye-filling. Background music is fair. Akilesh Kathamuthu’s cinematography is excellent. Om Siva Prakash’s action and stunt scenes are thrilling. Ranjith Kumar’s art direction is superb. Mahendran Ganesan’s editing ought to have been tighter. Dubbing is appropriate.
On the whole, Yaathisai will not be able to score among the Hindi-speaking audience.
Released on 10-5-’24 at Premiere Gold (daily 2 shows) and other cinemas of Bombay thru White Lion Entertainment. Publicity & opening: disastrous. …….Also released all over. Opening was poor everywhere.
