‘ZOLZAAL’ (MARATHI) REVIEW | 1 July, 2022

Amol Kagne Films, Rollingdice and Yukti International’s Zolzaal (Marathi; UA) is the story of a billionaire who dies after bequeathing all his property and wealth to his dog, Sweety. How his two sons cheat a builder, a don and a minister forms the crux of the drama.

Manas Kumar, Sanjeev Soni and Anand Gupta have written a story and screenplay, which make little sense. The drama is so silly and so kiddish that it actually tests the audience’s patience. The characters in the film are either oversmart or plain idiots. As a result, the drama fails to engage the viewers. The trio’s dialogues are not up to the mark.

Manoj Joshi does well as billionaire Balwant Patil. Priyanka Kholgade is so-so as his wife, Soundarya. Amol Kagne does an average job as Balwant’s son, Jay. Ruturaj Phadke is ordinary in the role of the other son, Veeru. Ajinkya Deo lends fair support as police inspector Abhimanyu Shinde. Mangesh Desai is alright as builder Dixit. Sayaji Shinde has his moments. Uday Tikekar is effective as Ravsaheb Patkar. Isha Agarwal is okay as Manju Patekar. Pritam Kagne does a fair job as Anju Patekar. Supriya Karnik lends routine support as advocate Durga Kadam. Bharat Ganeshpure is natural as servant Kashiram. Kushal Badrike leaves a fine mark as Dadaud Kayudre. Uday Nene is okay as Bandya Mama. Alisha Ferar (as Rozy), Sham Masalkar (as Dr. Tayade), Vishwajeet Soni (as broker Virwani), Ankur Wadhave and Saisha Pathak provide routine support.

Manas Kumar Das’ direction is weak. Except for some comic scenes, there’s little else to hold the attention of the audience. Music (Praful-Swapnil and Lalit Ramchandra) is not up to the mark. Lyrics (Mandar Cholkar, Baba Chavan and Varun Likhate) are ordinary. Song picturisations (by Pappu Khanna and Sujit) barely pass muster. Amar Mohile’s background music is nothing to write home about. Najeeb Khan’s camerawork is good. Mohan Baggad’s action and stunt scenes are hardly thrilling. Sarfuddin Mohd.’s art direction is so-so. Ashok Shrivastav’s editing is loose.

On the whole, Zolzaal is a flop show.
