‘CHHAPAAK’ CASE: NO COPYRIGHT RELIEF | 11 January, 2020

Rakesh Bharti, who claimed to have been cheated by Meghna Gulzar with regard to the script of her Chhapaak, got no relief from the Bombay high court on 8th January. Justice S.C. Gupte said that the film was inspired by true events or incidents over which nobody can claim copyright. Following this observation, Bharti decided not to press for interim relief in the form of stay on the film’s release. Chhapaak, therefore, released as per schedule, on 10th January.

Rakesh Bharti claimed that he had obtained a no-objection certificate from acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, on whose life story the film is based, to produce a film on her life.
