DELHI HC PROTECTS KARAN JOHAR’S PERSONALITY RIGHTS | 19 September, 2025

The Delhi high court on September 17 said that it will pass an interim injunction in favour of Karan Johar in his case seeking protection of his personality rights. The filmmaker had claimed that various entities had been using his name, image and other personal attributes without his consent, for commercial gain. Oftentimes, obscene and defamatory content using the above is used. The lawsuit also alleges unauthorised sale of merchandise using his name and image, impersonation, fake profiles and misuse of domain names.

Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora has asked social media platforms Google, Meta and X to provide basic subscriber information and IT log details. Summons have also been issued to platforms like Giphy and Pinterest as part of the main lawsuit.

It may be recalled that in May this year, the Bombay high court had upheld a stay on the release of a film titled Shaadi Ke Director Karan Aur Johar, saying that it infringed on Karan Johar’s personality and publicity rights.
