Veteran Malayalam filmmaker R. Sarath passed away on 7th September in Thiruvananthapuram. He was 65. His debut directorial venture, Saayahnnam, won seven Kerala state awards. It also won the Indira Gandhi National Award for the best debut film of a director. Among his other films are Sthithi, Seelabathi, Buddhanum Chaplinum Chirikkunnu, Swayam and Paradise. The Painted Epics, his documentary on the life and works of noted painter Raja Ravi Varma, received widespread appreciation within as well as outside India.
He is survived by his wife and two sons.
