REGAL CINEMA IN INDORE SHUTS DOWN | 21 September, 2019

The Indore Municipal Corporation took possession of Regal Talkies in the city on 17th September. The cinema had been at the centre of a controversy since long but the curtains finally came down on it this week. The Corporation had terminated the cinema’s lease agreement in 2008. The land had been given to the cinema on lease in 1930. The cinema started in 1934 and had been running since then.

The cinema owners had filed a writ petition in the Madhya Pradesh high court, seeking a stay on the Corporation’s action to take over the cinema. However, the court dismissed the writ.

There was a time when only men wearing ties and women in formal attire were given entry in the balcony of Regal cinema.
