Shabana Azmi, whose car met with an accident on 18th January on the Bombay-Pune expressway near the Khalapur toll plaza, is recovering at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Bombay. She has been shifted from the ICU to the care room. She sustained head and spinal injuries. Javed Akhtar and others were in another car which was following Shabana Azmi’s car as Shabana wanted to lie down on the back seat of the car.
The police issued Kamlesh Kamath, the driver of Shabana’s car, summons after booking him for rash and negligent driving. The car in which Shabana was travelling, hit the rear of a truck ahead, allegedly when Kamlesh tried to overtake another vehicle. The truck driver lodged the police complaint against the 38-year-old driver. The FIR against Kamlesh Kamath mentions the relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, relating to rash and negligent driving and also sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The police will record the car driver’s statement before taking any action.
