Veteran producer and owner of AVM Studios, M. Saravanan, passed away today (4th December) in Madras following age-related illnesses. He was 86. He is survived by his son, Guhan, who is also a film producer.
Widely known as AVM Saravanan, M. Saravanan took over the reins of the studio from his father, AV Meiyappan, along with his brother, M. Balasubramanian, in the late 1950s. He made a number of Tamil films, several of which were notable. Among his well-known films are Naanum Oru Penn (1963), Samsaram Adhu Minsaram (1986), Minsara Kanavu (1997), Sivaji: The Boss (2007), Vettaikaaran (2009), and Ayan (2009).
The mortal remains of M. Saravanan were kept at AVM Studios till 3.30 p.m. The cremation took place today after that.
