‘ABHANG TUKARAM’ (MARATHI) REVIEW | 7 November, 2025

Panorama Studios, Dithee Production and Chitrakathee Creations’ Abhang Tukaram (Marathi) is the story of the life and philosophy of Saint Tukaram. It portrays his fight for reforms, his struggle for equality, etc.

Yogesh Soman’s story is of the kind which has been seen in several earlier films as this is definitely not the first film based on the famous saint’s life. Digpal Lanjekar’s screenplay is alright but it lacks novelty. Yogesh Soman’s dialogues are ordinary.

Yogesh Soman does well as Sant Tukaram. Smita Shewale is very good as Tukaram’s wife, Avali. Ajay Purkar is okay as Mambaji. Sameer Dharmadhikari lends average support as Rameshwar Bhatt. Abhijeet Shwetchandra is so-so as Vitthal Dev. Ajinkya Raut does a fair job as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Sachin Bhilare makes a reasonable mark as Pantaji. Master Rudra Kolekar is alright as Tukaram’s son, Mhadya. Ishmita Joshi is okay as Tukaram’s daughter, Bhagirathi. Virajas Kulkarni (as Savji Maharaj), Mrinal Kulkarni (as Jijau Aausaheb), Nikhil Raut (as Moropant), Nupur Daithankar (as Rukmini), Avadhoot Gandhi (as Kalokhe Patil), Bipin Surve (as Baji Sarjerao), Tejas Barve (as Sant Dnyaneshwar), Abheer Gore (as little Vitthal), Sunil Godbole (as Rameshwar Bhatt’s assistant) and the rest pass muster.

Digpal Lanjekar’s direction is alright. Avadhoot Gandhi’s music (for the abhangs) is appealing. Sumit Salunkhe’s choreography is fair. Mayur Raut’s background music should’ve been more impactful. Camerawork (by Sandip Shinde) is reasonably nice. Babbu Khanna’s action and stunt scenes don’t afford much thrill. Pratik Redij and Sanjay Karole’s sets are appealing. Editing (Sagar Shinde and Vinay Shinde) should’ve been sharper.

On the whole, Abhang Tukaram may be a fairly nice film but its box-office prospects are below the mark.

Released on 7-11-’25 at Plaza (daily 1 show) and other cinemas of Bombay by Panorama Studios. Publicity: fair. Opening: weak.
