Incarcerated Godman and actor-producer-director Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was on August 13 released on a 21-day furlough from Rohtak’s Sunaria jail. This is his second break this year from his 20-year jail term for rape and murder. He was released in January for 50 days before the Lok Sabha elections. The Haryana elections are slated for October.
Taking into consideration the latest order, Singh has been granted furlough for a total of 253 days through eight orders since February 7, 2022, the year he became eligible for the facility.
The BJP-governed Haryana and U.P. governments gave clearances within 24 hours of his application for release. The Uttar Pradesh government’s clearance was needed as the Dera Sacha Sauda chief would be staying in his U.P. ashram.
