F.I.R. ON EKTA KAPOOR, SHOBHA KAPOOR UNDER POCSO ACT | 21 October, 2024

An FIR was registered against producers Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor for objectionable scenes and dialogues featuring underage children. The FIR was lodged under provisions of the POCSO Act by the MHB Colony police in Bombay on October 18. The complainant is a yoga teacher based in the Western suburbs.

The teacher had filed a written application with the MHB police and later went to court. The court recently directed the MHB Colony police to register an FIR in the matter.

According to the police, a web series, Gandii Baat, streamed by Alt Balaji in 2021 featured school-going children in an allegedly objectionable scene. Another web series on the same platform had allegedly obscene dialogues mouthed by a child. Further, characters in the series were shown smoking but there was no disclaimer flashed on the screen about the dangers of smoking. Besides sections of the POCSO Act, Information Technology Act and the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, provisions of the IPC have also been applied as the complainant alleged that communal sentiments were hurt in some scenes.
