Renowned folk singer Sharda Sinha passed away at AIIMS in New Delhi on 5th November around 9.20 p.m. following complications caused by septicaemia. She was 72.
Sharda’s Chhatth devotional songs in Maithili and Bhojpuri had become an inseparable part of the festival celebrations. She had lent her voice to songs in Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! and Gangs Of Wasseypur II. She had received the Padma Bhushan.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Very saddened by the passing away of well-known folk singer Sharda Sinha. Her Maithili and Bhojpuri songs have been very popular for many decades. The echoes of her melodious songs associated with Astha Ke Mahaparva Chhath will remain forever. Her death is an irreparable loss to the music world.”
