Kishanchand Somaya, owner of Apsara cinema, Bhavnagar (Gujarat), passed away on 29th November in Bhavnagar. The funeral was held on 30th.
In the good old days, when entertainment tax was very high in Gujarat, Kishanbhai used to give the housefull net collections as MG (minimum guarantee) to big films for simultaneous release with Galaxy cinema, Bhavnagar. He used to make his profit from tax evasion and parking charges! The canteen proceeds used to also go to him but canteen collections used to be quite low then.
Kishanbhai used to also acquire films for distribution in Saurashtra.
