OBJECTIONS AGAINST ‘2020 DELHI’ RELEASE: HC SAYS PREMATURE | 31 January, 2025

The Delhi high court on January 30 said that it was premature to examine the objections raised against 2020 Delhi, purportedly based on the 2020 North-East Delhi riots, as its certification was still pending before the Central Board of Film Certification.

The petitioners — activist Sharjeel Imam and others — claimed that the film’s trailer sought to present a distorted version of the events. Justice Sachin Datta noted that the film’s producers had agreed to put a suitable disclaimer at the beginning of the trailer. “At this stage, when the request for the requisite certification is still pending consideration by the CBFC, it is premature for this court to examine the objections of the petitioners in respect of the movie,” the high court said in its verdict on January 30.
