CBFC TATKAL SCHEME TO BE DISCONTINUED | 26 February, 2026

The I & B ministry has decided to abolish the priority (tatkal) scheme of the Central Board of Film Certification.

The priority scheme was introduced to facilitate urgent certifications, but there were instances of delays despite the additional fees being paid. Over time, however, the tatkal scheme became a handy tool for monied producers to get the certificate hastily. But this created delays in the case of films of small- and medium-sized producers.

The withdrawal of the scheme presents an opportunity to reinforce transparency, uniform timelines, and equal treatment for all filmmakers.

Under the scheme, a producer had to pay thrice the amount of examination fee. The Cinematograph (Certification) Rules are sought to be changed accordingly.
