Actor and politician Vijay’s wife, Sangeetha, has filed for divorce after 27 years of marriage. The divorce petition cited adultery and cruelty under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, as the reasons for seeking divorce.
Sangeetha has alleged that Vijay was having an affair with an actress since 2021. The divorce petition says that Vijay had been in a relationship with the actress whom he travelled abroad extensively with. The actress, Sangeetha said, posted on social media pictures of the two being together at events and abroad, which caused her distress and humiliation. Moreover, the petition also noted that Vijay withdrew facilities previously enjoyed by Sangeetha, and “imposed financial restrictions including curtailment of her free movement”. Sangeetha stated that Vijay’s “continued adulterous conduct and repeated social media controversies” in 2024 caused her severe mental torture. She added that their marriage had effectively ceased to exist and now survived only on paper. According to her, the relationship was incapable of revival and offered her nothing but “mental agony, indignity, humiliation and suffering”. The couple has two children.
