Bad Robot and Jackson Pictures’ The End Of Oak Street (dubbed from the Hollywood film of the same name; A) is about what happens when a mysterious cosmic event uproots Oak Street from suburbia and transports the neighbourhood to an unusual location, that too millions of years into the past. The Platt family soon discovers that they are surrounded by pre-historic creatures, and that their survival depends on sticking together. In the Platt family are Denise (Anne Hathaway), Greg (Ewan McGregor), Audrey (Maisy Stella) and Brian (Christian Convery).
David Robot Mitchell has written a story and screenplay which reminds of Jurassic Park but in a different way. Although his screenplay has drama, suspense, comedy and even some emotions, it doesn’t offer much for the Hindi film-going audience. Yes, there are thrilling moments but the implausibility of the premise comes in the way of the viewers’ enjoyment.
Anne Hathaway shines as Denise Platt. Ewan McGregor is good in the role of Greg Platt. Maisy Stella makes her mark as Audrey Platt. Christian Convery has his moments as Brian Platt. Jordan Alexa Davis lends decent support as Jeannette Christiansen. P.J. Byrne is alright as Mel Jacobs. Chris Coy and the others are adequate.
David Robert Mitchell’s direction is nice. Michael Giacchino’s background music is good. Michael Gioulakis’ cinematography is lovely. Maya Shimoguchi’s production designing is of a very good standard. John Axelrad’s editing is suitably sharp. Dubbing is good.
On the whole, The End Of Oak Street is too ordinary to make a mark at the box-office.
