The Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) of the government of India has asked actor Imran Khan, a US national, to leave the country by October 28 following his participation in a protest called by Tushar Gandhi-led group, Hum Bharat Ke Log, at August Kranti Maidan in Bombay on October 10 in support of the Cockroach Janta Party’s anti-CEC stir in Delhi.
The actor will move the Bombay high court today (October 16) challenging the government’s decision.
The FRRO’s ‘Leave India Notice’ on October 14, issued under section 7(2)(c) read with section 29 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, says that Imran Khan, a US national, has “contravened the provisions of the Act, and the rules and orders made under it”. It does not mention that the actor holds an OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India). It also doesn’t make any mention of his presence at the protest site.
Imran was briefly detained during the October 10 protest before being let off.
