AYUSHMANN KHURRANA, VICKY KAUSHAL, ADITYA DHAR WIN NATIONAL AWARDS | 10 August, 2019

Ayushmann Khurrana and Vicky Kaushal bagged the National Award for the best actor for 2018. The Awards were announced by Rahul Rawail, head of the jury for feature films, yesterday (9th August). Ayushmann won the award for Andhadhun while Vicky got it for Uri – The Surgical Strike. Uri also bagged three more awards including for the best director (Aditya Dhar whose maiden directorial venture it is). Although Uri was released in 2019, it was certified in 2018 and hence was considered for the 2018 National Awards. Keerthy Suresh won the best actress award for Mahanati (Telugu). Surekha Sikri (for Badhaai Ho) and Swanand Kirkire (Chumbak; Marathi) bagged the awards for the best supporting actress and best supporting actor respectively. The best film award went to Hellaro (Gujarati), directed by Abhishek Shah. Badhaai Ho won the award for the best popular film providing wholesome entertainment.

The award for the best debut film of a director went to Naal (Tamil).

Best non-feature film: Son Rise (by Vibha Bakshi) and The Secret Life Of Frogs (by Ajay and Vijay Bedi)

Best film on national integration: Ondalla Eradalla (Kannada)

Best film on environment issues: Paani

Best film on social issues: Pad Man

Best film on family values: Chalo Jeete Hain

Special jury award: Sruthi Hariharan, Joju George (for Joseph), Savithri (for Sudani Film Nigeria; Malayalam), Chandrachood Rai
