The Punjab and Haryana high court on 23rd January directed authorites to not take any coercive steps until March 25 against Raveena Tandon and filmmaker Farah Khan in connection with a plea against them for allegedly hurting religious sentiments during a TV show. The two and comedienne Bharti Singh had been booked by the Amritsar police in December last year, based on a complaint by Sonu Jafar, president of the Christian Front of Ajnala Block.
Raveena and Farah have petitioned the court for quashing of the FIR and for a stay on the probe. They contended that no offence was made out under IPC section 295A that they have been charged with.
Justice Ashok Kumar Verma on 23rd January issued the Punjab government and other respondents a notice for March 25 and asked them to refrain from taking any coercive steps against the petitioners.
